Tamarindo is another beach town in Costa Rica that is more known as a place to enjoy water sports activities than as a place to enjoy a quiet day at the beach. As a result, this beach has a younger crowd, and the nightlife here is quite lively.
Surfing and windsurfing are some of the most popular sports here, particularly given the near perfect wind conditions that are suited to both professionals and newbies alike. Sportsfishing is also quite popular here, with many fishermen catching marlin, tuna and sailfish. You can also scuba dive, snorkel, kayak and jet ski, whatever may tickle your fancy. Just be careful when swimming though, as the rip tides can be quite strong and the sea rocks are barely submerged.
For land-based activities, golf is a popular option at some of the resorts in the area. Those who are interested in eco-tourism will definitely enjoy horseback-riding in the wildlife refuge of Diria or visiting the Marino Las Baulas National Park to see the leatherback turtles lay their eggs.
Whatever your budget, you’re sure to find a Tamarindo hotel that suits your needs. Everything from luxurious beach-front hotels and vacation rentals to more budget-friendly apart-hotels and hostels are available in the area. A quick search online is sure to help you narrow down your options. View our listing of Tamarindo hotels & resorts.
Though the crowd is quite younger in Playa del Coco than in other areas, no matter what your age, you’re sure to find something to do here. It just a matter of being open to the possibilities and exploring things you never thought you’d get the chance to do.
